                                                                  ABOUT DEPARTMENT

The Department of Microbiology was established at Dr. V.S. Krishna Govt. Degree College (A) in the year 2005. Initially the department was offering under graduation in Microbial Laboratory Technology course. Later the Microbiology course was modified as restructured courses. Until the academic year 2022 – 2023, the department was offering Microbiology course in two combinations as B.Sc. [Microbiology. Biotechnology. Chemistry] and B.Sc. [Microbiology. Biochemistry. Chemistry]. With effect from the academic year 2023 – 2024, the department is offering a 4-year under graduate programme i.e., B.Sc. Hons in Microbiology as Major. The present student intake from the A.Y. 2023 – 2024 is 44. The 4-year B.Sc. Hons. in Microbiology major is a choice-based credit system offered in 8-semesters with a total of 48 theory courses, 25 laboratories, 3 internships/ project/ on job training works. Several students of this department have been successfully employed and are working in several leading National & International laboratories, Industries, research Institution and colleges. A few students have secured admissions in USA for their post-graduation.

The research areas of focus that have been identified in the Microbiology department include Diagnostic microbiology, Environmental Microbiology, Bioinformatics, genomics, and Microbial vaccines. With adequately furnished lab apparatus and huge collection of books, the Microbiology Department has evolved into a prominent division in Dr. V.S. Krishna Govt. Degree College (A). The department holds training sessions to students for the AP-PG-CET, CU-CET counselling and guidance for the NET, and GATE exam preparation. Every year, 25 – 40 % of the enrolled students qualify in the Post graduate entrance examinations of state and central Universities. The department maintains good relationships with prospective companies and regularly circulate the job openings. Regarding the faculty credentials, the Microbiology faculty have an excellent research experience with publications from reputed science journals, national patents and they regularly participate in national and international organizations.
