Green policy
Preamble
Dr. V. S. Krishna Government Degree College (A)firmly believes that environmental sustainability can be attained through sensitization of the younger generations. The main aim is to incorporate eco-friendly practices to foster GO GREEN culture on the campus echoing the spirit of environmental sustainability.
I. Vision
The vision of the green policy is to lessen our influence on the environment, conserve resources and promote sustainability in the college and to educate students to maintain harmony with nature.
II. Mission
● Implementation of measures to conserve campus biodiversity.
● Creating awareness on the eco-friendly practices.
● To ensure judicious use of natural resources of the college.
III. Objectives
1. To maintain a pollution-free, clean and lush green environment that provides a natural habitat for fauna on the campus.
2. To Undertake regular plantations that help in reducing carbon footprint.
3. To create awareness among students about sustainable eco-friendly practices.
4. To take the initiative to conduct green and energy audits.
5. To ensure safe and proper disposal of the waste generated in the college.
6. To take measures for the establishment of a biogas plant.
IV. Functions (How to achieve objectives)
1. Dr. V. S. Krishna College takes up regular plantations in the college premises and takes utmost care in maintaining green cover. It also conducts regular weeding and campus cleaning drives.
2. Harnessing plastic free practices among the students by collecting the plastic from the campus and handing it over to the plastic recycling unit.
3. Implementation of sustainable waste management practices such as the preparation of organic compost from garden leaf litter to curtail the indiscriminate burning of waste which causes respiratory diseases.
4. In the mission to accomplish “go green” the institution has installed solar panels.
5. Replacement of normal lights with LED bulbs and implementation of efficient energy-saving tactics by educating students and staff.
6. The E-waste generated in the college is properly handed over to E-waste recycling agencies for safe disposal.
7. Taking steps to conserve water by digging up rainwater harvesting pits. Arrangement of sprinklers in the botanical garden to avoid wastage of water.
8. College celebrates the days of environmental importance by organizing awareness programmes such as quizzes, essays, theme-based drawing competitions, poster presentations and rallies regarding various issues related to the environment.
9. The institution conducts cultural awareness programmes such as skits, plays, themes, short films and songs to sensitize students, teachers and all stakeholders.
10. The institution conducts regular green and energy audits to review the effectiveness and implementation of the policies.
11. Incorporation of topics related to environment sustainability in the curriculum across various disciplines to bring awareness among students to become eco -conscious.
12. Implementation of effective measures to minimize the use of paper.
Committee
Formation & Operation
A committee is reconstituted for the academic year 2023-24 for implementation of the Green Policy. Student members are also included in the committee to give opportunity to express their ideas and implementation of the programmes planned.
Meetings schedule:
The members of the club under the chairmanship of Principal, are resolved to meet at least once in a month or as per the requirement of conducting the activities. All the members must also be present at all club meetings, events, activities, etc.
The committee of Haritha Krishna Eco club is reconstituted for the academic year 2023-24 with the following faculty and students to promote the eco-friendly practices and implement the green policy of the institution. Student members are also included in the committee to give opportunity to express their ideas and implementation of the programmes planned.
