ABOUT
The Department of Biotechnology introduced B.Sc Biotechnology program in 1997 with postgraduate education (MSc) in Biotechnology. Staffed with faculty members holding doctorates and possessing teaching and research experience in biotechnology, the department boasts infrastructure to facilitate practical learning present in the program of study. The Department has been offering courses in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Chemistry and Botany, Biotechnology, Chemistry since its inception. From the academic year 2023–2024, the department began offering a 4-year undergraduate program, B.Sc. Hons in Biotechnology, with an intake of 40 students. This program spans 8 semesters and includes 48 theory courses, 25 laboratory courses, and 3 internships or project/on-the-job training opportunities.
The Department aims to meet the ever increasing demand for skilled manpower in various Biotech industries and organizations by offering a comprehensive curriculum and practical training opportunities in a well equipped laboratory and also provids access to 135 international and national books for student references.
The B.Sc Biotechnology program equips students with theoretical and practical knowledge through core courses covering diverse topics such as Cell Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering, and Bioprocess Technology. Skill-based subjects include isolation of plant organelles, computer based drug discovery, immunology and also offers a certificate course in Mushroom culture. The program emphasizes hands-on skills development and offers internships and projects to provide practical exposure and deepen understanding of advanced biotech concepts.
The students from the department have gained admission into national laboratories, industries, research institutions, and a few students secured admission into postgraduate programs in the USA.
