Red Ribbon Club
The Red Ribbon Club is a voluntary on-campus intervention program for students in educational institutions. The Red Ribbon Club (RRC) was started by Dr. V. S. Krishna Govt. Degree College in the year 2008. The RRC has been organizing awareness programmes on Voluntary Blood Donation, HIV & AIDS and imparting life skills since its inception. The red ribbon has become an internationally recognized symbol for AIDS awareness. Another important activity of RRC is blood donation, considered as the gift of life as there is no substitute present for human blood. Donating one unit of blood may save the lives of up to three people. The RRC is functioning at Dr. V. S. Krishna Govt. degree College with the following objectives.
1. To spread awareness among the youth particularly the students about the dreaded disease HIV/AIDS. To reduce new occurrences of HIV infection among youth by raising their risk perception through awareness programmes
2. To induce among youth the spirit to help and support people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) there by reducing stigma and discrimination against PLHWAs.
3. To motivate youth and build their capacity as peer educators and change agents by developing their skills on leadership, negotiation, and team building.
4. To promote voluntary non-remunerated blood donation among youth.
